Can I create a lead magnet in ConvertKit?

You can’t create a proper ConvertKit lead magnet because this is an email marketing tool first and foremost. 

So, you can only use a basic lead capture page, upload a resource, or offer a lead magnet that you created through a separate platform.

How to create a ScoreApp and ConvertKit quiz strategy in 5 steps 

It’s easy to connect these two tools, but let’s start by planning a quiz that works for your business, customers, and goals.

Step 1: Set up your ScoreApp quiz lead magnet

Before creating your quiz, come up with the right idea and angle. An effective lead magnet:

  • is attractive for your target customers (especially by solving a small problem for them)
  • brings you the data you need to achieve your lead generation and sales goals
  • is so good that… you almost feel bad sharing it for free!

For example, let’s say you’re a web designer. Your target clients DIYed their website but it hasn’t been generating business. So, your quiz lead magnet could be a “FREE Website Diagnostic Scorecard” or “Why is my website not bringing me clients (& how to fix it)?”

  • Create your quiz landing page – Write compelling copy, highlighting how taking this quiz will benefit your target customers. Then, complement it with relevant visuals (like photos and videos), social proof (such as reviews from past customers or beta testers), and calls to action

Step 2: Integrate your ScoreApp and ConvertKit accounts

Regardless of how techie you are, we bet you can complete this second step in a minute:

  • Get your API key from ConvertKit (click on your profile icon and then Settings -> Advanced -> API)
  • On ScoreApp, go to the Integrate section, and select ConvertKit
  • When prompted, enter your ConvertKit API Key

Yep, that’s literally it!

Step 3: Map your ScoreApp and ConvertKit fields

Now, the two tools are connected. So, whenever someone completes your ScoreApp quiz, they’ll be added (or updated) as a ConvertKit contact, and you get to choose which list they’ll feed into. ScoreApp will also share their First Name, Last Name, and Email.

As seen before, though, you’ll get the best results by nurturing your ConvertKit contacts in a personalised way. For that to happen, you must get the two tools to share more information.

So, in the same Integrate section in ScoreApp:

  • Map leads form fields – Is there anything else that you want your leads to share when they sign up for your quiz? For example, a web designer might want to include a field titled “Website URL” 
  • Map result fields – THIS is what allows you to segment your leads and nurture them in a tailored way! Create new ConvertKit fields and tags based on someone’s ScoreApp quiz results (their overall score, a specific category, their answer to one question, and so on), and use them to feed into your ConvertKit lead scoring system. For example, our web designer could do this based on how someone answered the question “Are you a solopreneur, or have you got a team?” and their overall score. If it’s low, it means this lead would reeeeeeeeally benefit from a brand-new website. If it’s fairly high, they might only need a “Fix your website in 2h” session

Step 4: Nurture your leads with automated and personalised ConvertKit emails

Remember the mapped fields in the previous section? On ConvertKit, you can use them to either:

  • Set up a different email sequence for each segment 
  • Personalise certain elements in your emails, such as some of their wording, subject lines, and links

Either way, the goal is to plan email sequences that feel relevant to each lead and that help you nurture and sell to them effectively

While this obviously depends on your goals and business model, here are some email ideas: 

  • Welcome your leads, and tell them what they can expect from you 
  • Focus on their biggest problem (hint hint: your ScoreApp quiz questions can uncover it!)
  • Educate them with valuable emails and additional resources (like blog posts and videos), tackling their concerns, helping them reframe their beliefs, and showing them the importance of investing in your services or products 
  • Create a connection by showcasing your personality and sharing relevant stories
  • Build trust with your new leads: show them how you helped clients who used to be in their shoes (reviews, case studies, and narrative-based emails are PERFECT for this!)
  • When the time is right, invite them on a call with a personalised message, or recommend the best service or product for them

Step 5: Keep optimising your ScoreApp and ConvertKit quiz funnel

You’ve done most of the work by now (high five!). To really set yourself up for success, though, make sure you also: 

  • Test your quiz and emails before launching them – Let’s avoid broken links, faulty automations, and bad surprises. Check every single element of your funnel: does it work smoothly on both desktops and phones?
  • Conduct some A/B testing – Find out what your leads enjoy the most (and least) by showing them different versions of the same element, like one email or landing page
